&lt;p&gt;Nitrogen is a nutrient for the plant. The main nitrogen sources for plant nutrition are farm yard manure and inorganic nitrogen (urea). There is a lot of nitrogen in atmosphere (78%), but plants cannot uptake it directly.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;There are so called nitrogen fixing bacteria, like Rhizobium, Azospirillum, Azotobacter, etc., which can uptake this atmospheric nitrogen (molecular nitrogen, N2) in rhizosphere of plants. These nitrogen fixing bacteria uptake molecular nitrogen, N2, as nutrient, and convert it into NH&lt;sub&gt;3&lt;/sub&gt;, which plant can use it. This means plant can use inexhaustible nitrogen source too by a help of nitrogen fixing bacteria. These bacteria work like nitrogen fertilizer factory.&lt;/p&gt;
