&lt;p&gt;Various surface treatment technologies are applied to molds for extending&lt;br /&gt;their lives. Recently growing environmental awareness has resulted to&lt;br /&gt;change the type of lubricants along with other drastic modifications and has&lt;br /&gt;shortened the operating lifetime of molds. In an effort to improve their&lt;br /&gt;lifetime, Hitachi Tool Engineering developed "the TRIBECTM Series". By&lt;br /&gt;identifying the necessary performance attributes of each application based&lt;br /&gt;on extensive analysis on mold abrasion over many years, Hitachi Tool&lt;br /&gt;Engineering has achieved high-performance surface treatment of molds&lt;br /&gt;that is operating-environment specific. "The TRIBECTM Series" provides&lt;br /&gt;protection for molds used even in harsh conditions where environmentally&lt;br /&gt;conscious lubricating methods are used.
